A brief history of MWCS

The Muddy Waters Computer Society Inc. was established as the Muddy Waters Osborne Group in 1982, a time when an Osborne was “the system” to own. The group expanded support to other variations of CP/M based systems and became known as the Muddy Waters Orphans Group, or the Muddy Waters Others Group (MWOG), when vendor support for these various orphaned systems began to dwindle.

When the PC began to come into proliferation, the group again changed names and became known as the Muddy Waters User Group (MWUG). The group finally became incorporated under the current name iteration of the Muddy Waters Computer Society Inc., a name which we feel reflects the various generations of the group and its diversified support for a number of different computer platforms from CP/M systems to mainframes.

Today the MWCS is a generic computer club. Which is to say we discuss a wide range of topics from various computer platforms. Our members have experience with Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD, and the Apple//. If pressed we could still probably answer questions about DOS and CP/M.

Muddy Waters is the literal translation of the native word Ouinipeg, or “Winnipeg”.
